Torque Limiter Coupling for Conveyor Overload Protection

← All Articles Technical review:刘金松, Engineer

A conveyor torque limiter is selected around the blockage it must protect, not around a generic coupling label. Define whether the drive should slip, disengage or stop, then record the jam torque, reset access and shaft interface.

Conveyor jam protection: define the event first

Separate an empty start, a loaded start, a foreign-object jam and a stalled downstream conveyor. The protected component may be the reducer, head shaft, belt or a downstream machine; the release point must be below the weakest approved limit and above normal process peaks.

Trip response and reset method

State the response required after overload: controlled slip, positive disengagement, manual reset or an electrical stop signal. Record residual torque, reset angle, sensor interface and the inspection steps before restarting the conveyor.

Shaft fit and guard envelope

Provide both shaft diameters, keyways, bore lengths, DBSE, outside-diameter limit, guard clearance and the available removal path. A correct trip setting cannot compensate for a hub that does not fit the shaft or cannot be safely inspected.

Nuisance trips are evidence, not a setting target

Log the conveyor load, belt condition, speed and jam location at every trip. Check bearings, pulleys, belt tracking, material build-up and alignment before increasing the setting. Raising the setting without a cause review can move the failure into the reducer or shaft.

RFQ data for a conveyor overload limiter

Send conveyor station, motor and reducer data, operating speed, measured or documented jam event, required protective action, reset procedure, shaft measurements, environment, quantity and photographs. Compare the torque limiter product data with the conveyor application notes.

FAQ | Torque Limiter for Conveyor Overload Protection

Is motor power enough to set a conveyor torque limiter?

No. The setting depends on the protected jam torque, normal peak, stopping response, shaft connection and the consequence of a trip.

What should be checked after a conveyor limiter trips?

Inspect the cause of the blockage, hubs, keyways, fasteners and guard, then verify the recorded setting and reset method before returning the line to service.
